what I came for

anyone who knows me is probably aware of my lurid fascination with abandoned buildings. abandoned buildings make my pupils dilate. this particular voyage has been years in the making...

behold the Buckner Building of picturesque Whittier, Alaska! it was once the largest building in the state, a "city under one roof", completed in 1959 and severely damaged in the 1964 earthquake. apparently it hasn't been totally torn down in the decades since due to the remoteness (and pain-in-the-ass hauling-out-ness) of its location. according to Wikipedia, it contains "dangerous levels of asbestos." let's go inside!
this was taken in near-total darkness.
eye level at a 45 degree angle.
the most glorious of holes!
the icicle-asbestos (?) things were everywhere. it was rather spelunky!
one of the corridors.
a verdant oasis!
if only love was so easy!
grab it.
a contemplative reflecting pool.
this is some of the shmoo collecting below the asbestos-icicles. I was tempted to take some home as a souvenir but decided that was unwise.
the roof outside the window was covered in water and reflecting serenely.
part of the exterior. this place is massive. LOOK AT IT!
and then, a theater. and on the stage, a bicycle.
back to the civilized lair and my bombastic lemon mint. this plant is insane!
entropy-pants.
and the fantastic hot dog I ate at the fantastic canpground over this fantastic weekend.
happy summer!

love, sunshine, salt, mosquitoes

somehow I lost my access to my prior blog-thing. it's still in the ether at http://www.sixtyonenorth.blogspot.com if you're feeling nostalgic. but I got far too irritated with trying to make it work so I just started another one. same shit, longer URL.
it's been obscenely lovely in Alaska this month. i keep hearing people say things like "this is what it's all about."

-the blue study, revisited.
-cloudship enterprise.
-it split open and melted.
-I asked her to do the robot, and she did.
-75 degrees at 7th & G.
